When to fold the hands after the takbir al-tahrima

Question

Question: is leaving both hands hanging down after starting the prayer (lit. “after tying the niyya”) makruh or haram?

Answer

It is contrary to the sunna, but not haram. [ar]وَوَضَعَ يَمِينَهُ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ كَمَا فَرَغَ مِنَ التَّكْبِيرِ بِلَا إِرْسَالٍ فِي الْأَصَحِّ. اهـ «الدر المختار». وَهُوَ ظَاهِرُ الرِّوَايَةِ، وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي النَّوَادِرِ أَنَّهُ يُرْسِلُهَا حَالَةَ الثَّنَاءِ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهُ يَضَعُ. اهـ «رد المحتار»
