Up to what point the reward of the first takbir can be gained

Question

Question: if someone joins the congregation in the ruku‘ of the first rak‘a, does he obtain the reward of the first takbir (takbir al-ula) or not? Up to what point of the first rak‘a does [the possibility of gaining] the reward of the first takbir remain?

Answer

According to the correct view (sahih), he does obtain it. Whoever did not catch the first rak‘a has not obtained the reward of the takbir al-tahrima. Other opinions are also mentioned on this issue, [but] the correct view is precisely what we have written. So it is in “al-Tahtawi ‘ala Maraqi al-Falah” (p. 149).
