Qiyam is fard for women too in the obligatory prayer

Question

(1) In our area most women pray seated. Despite being admonished and despite being shown the books, the women do not believe it and want a fatwa. (2) The prayers that women have until now performed seated, even knowingly — were they fulfilled or not? Must they be made up (qada’)?

Answer

(1) In a fard prayer the qiyam is fard; if it is prayed seated without an excuse, the fard prayer will not be fulfilled. (2) Those prayers were not fulfilled.
