The ruling on qiyam in prayer for women

Question

Is the qiyam fard in women’s prayer, as it is for a man? If a woman prays seated without an excuse, will her prayer be valid?

Answer

Women are not exempt from the obligation of qiyam; rather, the ruling for men and women is the same. The issues in which there is a difference [between them] are set out in Tahtawi, and qiyam is not among them. Just as a man’s prayer becomes fasid (invalid) through omitting a fard, so too does a woman’s.
