The ruling on the adhan and iqama for qada’ prayers
Question
I am writing to you to understand a passage of “Bihishti Gawhar” (“The Heavenly Pearl”): if several prayers have been missed and they are all prayed at one time, then giving the adhan is sunna only for the first prayer, and for the remaining prayers only the iqama; though it is mustahabb that the adhan too be given separately for each prayer?
Answer
Owing to preoccupation in the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwat al-Khandaq), the prayer of the Prophet ﷺ was missed (became qada’). When he prayed them at the time of ‘Isha’, he prayed them in congregation: for the first prayer the adhan and iqama were given, and for the rest the iqama alone sufficed. This very mas’ala must be what is stated in “Bihishti Gawhar”.
