Responding to the Adhan while Performing Wudu, Reciting the Qur’an or Teaching
Question
A man in the mosque is performing wudu, or reciting the Qur’an, or studying hadith and fiqh, or delivering an admonition and a talk — and meanwhile the mu’adhdhin begins the adhan. Should he stop what he is doing and respond to the adhan, or continue what he is doing? Please explain in detail: what are the rulings in each of these cases?
Answer
Let him continue his wudu; as for the other activities, it is better (afdal) to stop them and respond to the adhan, but if he continued them, there is no sin in that either.
