If the Adhan Begins during an Admonition

Question

A person, having gathered a few people, in the mosque or outside the mosque, in the form of a lesson (dars), is reading aloud some religious book to them or delivering an oral admonition. Meanwhile the time of the adhan for some prayer arrives, and the sound of the adhan is heard. Should the one reading the book aloud now stop reading or continue? And in this case, should the one reading the book or the one delivering the admonition, as well as the listeners, respond to the adhan or not?

Answer

The best course is that when the adhan begins, the book, the recitation, the admonition and the talk be stopped and the adhan be responded to; then, after reciting the supplication of the adhan, they may resume the book, the recitation, the admonition and the talk as the occasion permits. In “Radd al-Muhtar” and other books of fiqh this is stated explicitly.
