Adhan for suhur

Question

If in the blessed month of Ramadan, before the suhur meal is taken, an adhan is given to wake people up and for them to eat suhur, is such an adhan permissible according to the Shari‘a?

Answer

Sleepers should be woken with a kettledrum or the like; the adhan should not be given for eating suhur.
