Cutting Hair on Tuesday and Saturday
Question
A certain religious scholar said that it is stated in a hadith: “Do not cut your hair on Tuesday and Saturday, for doing so on these days causes the disease of baras (vitiligo).” Is this hadith sound?
Answer
I have not seen this in any book of hadith. Publisher’s note: the noble hadith contains a prohibition of hijama (cupping) on Tuesday and Saturday. In Arabic the word hijama means cupping, that is, letting out corrupted blood, and does not refer to cutting hair, for which the word hijama is [mistakenly] also used in Urdu. This is precisely the source of some people’s confusion.
