A Narration About the Forgiveness of Sins
Question
Question: After the [‘Asr] prayer, a man said [in his address]: “Brothers! A major sin (kabira) cannot be forgiven without repentance — except for one who performs the following act.” He related that on the gate of Paradise it is written: [ar]إِنِّي أَنَا اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ[/ar] “Indeed, I am Allah; there is no god but Me; Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah” — and that reciting this phrase causes one hundred and twenty-four thousand sins to be forgiven.
Answer
I have not seen this hadith in [any known] book. If a disbeliever (kafir) recites the pure kalima with a sincere heart, then not only are his sins forgiven but even his disbelief (kufr) is forgiven, and he becomes like one newly born.
