Investigation of Several Hadiths
Question
Question: I happened to meet an Ahl-e Hadith [adherent] who, regarding the identification of the following hadiths, said that they ought to be found in the Six [Canonical] Books, and the chain of transmission ought to be clearly indicative.
Answer
In this wording, this [hadith] is not found in the sound collections (sihah). However, [the hadith] “The scholars are the heirs of the prophets” was narrated by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, Ahmad and other noble imams. Abu Nu‘aym narrated it as raised [to the Prophet] (marfu‘an): “The people closest to the rank of prophethood are the people of knowledge and jihad.” (2)
