The Reward of Forty Hadiths From Reciting One Formula Forty Times

Question

If Zayd knows only one formula of salawat or istighfar by heart, will he, after reciting it forty (40) times, receive the complete reward of forty hadiths? Or is it necessary to recite forty separate, distinct formulas?

Answer

The merit of forty hadiths is attained precisely through forty hadiths; it is not attained by reciting a formula of salawat or istighfar forty times. However, a separate reward will indeed be received for reciting it — and that too is very worthy.
