Are There More Verses of Warning or of Mercy?
Question
Does Allah the Exalted mention His wrath (qahr) more often in the Holy Qur’an, or His mercy? It seems to me that mention of anger and wrath occurs more often.
Answer
This is not so — rather, the promises of mercy and glad tidings are more numerous. For [the threat of] punishment and wrath is conditioned upon disobedience, whereas [the promise of] reward and mercy is not conditioned upon righteous deeds. For example, innocent children will be forgiven [and admitted to Paradise] without having done anything.
