Satan's Respite and His Fate

Question

Has Satan been granted a respite until the coming of the Hour? What fate awaits him on the Day of Resurrection? Can he be forgiven if he repents?

Answer

Satan made a most cunning entreaty: [ar]قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِى إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ[/ar] "He said: ‘My Lord, then grant me respite until the day they are resurrected’" (Surah Sad, 38:79) — that is: grant me respite until the day the dead rise from their graves (so that I may be spared from death).
