Nikah with a Milk Sister by Mistake

Question

A man was married. After several years had passed, it became known that the two of them are milk brother and sister, that is, the son-in-law had drunk the milk of his mother-in-law. At present there are two or three children. What should be done now?

Answer

If it is established through verification that the two are milk brother and sister and the nikah was contracted in ignorance, then he should immediately give her a talaq (divorce) and end the marital bond; and that divorced woman, after the ‘idda, may contract a proper nikah with another man. There is no veiling between a milk brother and sister.
