Can Nikah Be Contracted with a Milk Sister?
Question
A woman, Hinda, suckled a girl born of Kabira. Can a nikah now take place between Kabira’s daughter, born of her, and Hinda’s son or not?
Answer
These two are milk brother and sister to each other; their nikah is not valid according to the Shari‘a: [ar]وَلَا حِلَّ بَيْنَ رَضِيعٍ وَوَلَدِ مُرْضِعَتِهِ[/ar] “There is no lawfulness between a suckled child and the child of the woman who suckled it” (“Multaqa al-Abhur”, p. 377).
