Marriage of a Stepdaughter to Her Stepfather’s Younger Brother

Question

Khalida and Zayd are spouses. ‘Abdullah is the second husband; Hinda is Zayd’s daughter. ‘Abdullah’s younger brother is Sa‘id. May Hinda now marry Sa‘id or not? Zayd has died. Khalida has contracted a second nikah with ‘Abdullah.

Answer

In such a case Sa‘id, ‘Abdullah’s younger brother, may contract marriage (‘aqd) with Hinda, because he is not a mahram.
