Marriage to the Wife’s Niece (Her Sister’s Daughter)

Question

Is it permissible to marry the daughter of one’s wife’s sister or not?

Answer

If the wife dies, or if she is given a divorce (talaq) and her ‘idda comes to an end, then marriage to the daughter of the wife’s sister will be valid. Combining a maternal aunt and her niece (her sister’s daughter) in one marriage is not permissible.
