Acceptance after Refusing Acceptance in the Contract Session

Question

Zayd’s wedding procession went to ‘Amr’s house. The qadi began to perform the nikah. Because of the excessiveness of the mahr, the young man refused. His father persuaded him, and he agreed. Meanwhile the respected qadi had also got up and left. Then, on returning, the girl’s father was called: “Have the nikah performed.” He said, “The decision will be made tomorrow.” Now the question is that the young man came again and declared his acceptance (qabul).

Answer

The respected qadi presented the offer (ijab) of nikah on the girl’s behalf to the young man. He refused to accept. Then the young man’s father got up from there and took him to another session. Meanwhile the respected qadi got up from the session and left, so the first offer became void.
