The Match Was Made with the Elder Daughter, but the Younger Was Sent to the Husband by Mistake
Question
Zayd had two daughters, both adult. He had to marry off one of his daughters — the one who was elder in age. At the nikah, by mistake the name of the younger daughter was given, and then it was the elder daughter who was sent off to the husband. In such a case, which of the daughters will be in the nikah? And have the husband and wife not become sinners through this cohabitation?
Answer
The nikah took place with the girl whom the husband accepted, that is, with the younger daughter. Then, sending the elder daughter to him and establishing marital relations with her is a very grave mistake. They should repent (tawba) and seek forgiveness (istighfar) for it.
