The Testimony of One Man and Two Women in a Nikah

Question

An adult woman, making her husband’s mother and father and his sister witnesses, married her husband’s younger brother. Is this testimony valid according to the Shari‘a or not? Meanwhile none of the woman’s relatives has any knowledge at all of the second nikah.

Answer

If the sister is adult, then according to the Shari‘a this nikah has been concluded, because an adult woman has the right to conclude her own nikah with her equal (kuf’), and what is necessary is that the witnesses be two men, or one man and two women.
