Witnesses Are Needed When Renewing a Nikah Too

Question

If a nikah is to be repeated as a precaution, are a witness and mahr needed at that time as well, or will the offer and acceptance of the husband and wife themselves suffice?

Answer

At that time too the presence of witnesses is necessary: the offer and acceptance of the husband and wife alone in private is not sufficient. The mahr must also be specified — the previous mahr is not sufficient.
