Processions and the daff at the Eids
Question
In some places at the Eids the young men and boys go out in a procession and celebrate; they have no drum or the like with them, but only beat the daff, which has leather on one side. What is the ruling on beating this kind of daff, or any other drum and the like, in a procession on this occasion?
Answer
This daff, drum and the like are impermissible (Sakb al-Anhur, vol. 1, p. 553). The Shari‘a has permitted the daff for the purpose of announcing a nikah; it has not permitted it on the day of Eid.
