The Eid prayer in neighbourhood mosques when unrest is feared
Question
In the city of Moradabad, on 13 August 1980, at the time of the Eid al-Fitr prayer, right in the Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer), the local police and the PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) opened fire — inappropriately, without reason, without necessity, against the law and against humanity (in the presence of the local administration) — and a bloody, heart-rending tragedy took place: the loss of the lives of countless old men, young men and children.
Answer
In these circumstances the Eid prayer should be performed in the mosques of the neighbourhoods; this is the most fitting, and in it lies protection from strife. May Allah the Pure protect [you].
