The Imam Leading the Eid Prayer a Second Time

Question

The imam had announced the Eid prayer for nine o’clock, and in accordance with the announcement the Eid prayer was performed at exactly nine. But after the prayer had been performed, the remaining people who had not come on time arrived and asked the imam to lead the prayer for them. Allah knows best, but it is heard that there was a fear of a quarrel there, on account of which the imam led the prayer for them too, which is not right.

Answer

If the imam has led the Eid prayer once, and then some people came and said, “Lead us in prayer too,” and the imam led the Eid prayer for them too, then this second prayer was not valid. Editor’s note: after leading the Eid prayer once, the imam has now become one performing a voluntary prayer (mutanaffil), and the prayer of one performing an obligatory prayer (muftarid)
