If the imam forgets the takbirs of the Eid prayer
Question
If in the first rak‘a of the Eid prayer the imam forgets to say the additional takbirs and remembers after reaching ruku‘, what should he do now? Should he say the additional takbirs in ruku‘ and leave out the tasbihs of ruku‘? Or rise from ruku‘, stand, say the additional takbirs and then repeat the ruku‘? Or do nothing, but after ruku‘, having performed the prostrations and so on, perform sajda al-sahw (the prostration of forgetfulness)? Or not perform sajda al-sahw either, and pray the Eid prayer again?
Answer
In such a case he should neither say the additional takbirs in ruku‘, nor return from ruku‘ and say them standing, nor perform sajda al-sahw, because in every one [of these options] there is confusion and a strong likelihood that the prayer of the worshippers will be spoiled. In such a situation sajda al-sahw falls away, and repeating (i‘ada) the prayer is not wajib either.
