Delivering the Jumu‘a khutba holding a sword or a bow

Question

In “Fatawa Alamgiri”, vol. 1, p. 76, in the chapter on Jumu‘a, [in the section] on the conditions of the khutba, there is this text: [ar]ويكره أن يخطب متكئًا على قوس أو عصا، كذا في الخلاصة، وهكذا في المحيط[/ar] “It is makruh to deliver the khutba leaning on a bow or a staff; so it is in ‘al-Khulasa’, and likewise in ‘al-Muhit’.” What does it mean? Please write, and along with that, what the ruling is.

Answer

In “Fatawa Alamgiri”, in the chapter on Jumu‘a, there is no heading “Conditions of the khutba” at all. It does, however, set out the conditions of Jumu‘a and the details belonging to them, and then enumerates the sunnas of the khutba.
