The dome over the Blessed Rawda ﷺ and the prohibition of taking graves as mosques
Question
It is stated [in the hadith]: “The nations before you took the graves of the prophets and awliya’ as mosques — you must never do so.” And also: [ar]لعن الله اليهود والنصارى جعلوا قبور أنبيائهم مساجد[/ar] “Allah cursed the Jews and the Christians: they made the graves of their prophets mosques,” as he said.
Answer
The noble grave was not placed in the courtyard of the mosque; rather, it is in the noble chamber. Then the noble mosque was expanded, and so the noble chamber came inside the mosque. On its sides there are walls; it is not a place of prostration: had it been so, the prayer would not be performed with one’s back towards it.
