Demolishing a brick-built grave

Question

Is it permissible or not to demolish brick-built graves that were built earlier?

Answer

Demolishing them is permissible. The brick-built graves should be pulled down and the mark of a plain (earthen) grave left in place. However, if this would cause unrest and stir up fitna (strife), it should be avoided.
