When Reward Is Gifted to Many Souls, Will Each Receive It in Full or Divided?
Question
If a person recites the Holy Qur’an and gifts [its] reward (isal al-thawab) to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and after him ﷺ gifts the reward to the souls of the entire umma of Muhammad (which includes all the believers), and then gifts it, naming them, to his parents, brother, dear ones and relatives — will the reward of this Qur’an be divided in small portions among all the souls, or will all the souls of the entire umma of Muhammad each separately receive an equal reward, and will the reciter also receive an equal…
Answer
There is no explicit text (nass) on this issue. That the reward reaches divided according to shares is closer to analogy (aqyas); however, if by the mercy and grace of Allah it reaches everyone in full, that is not at all far-fetched. ‘Allama Shami ﵀, in “Radd al-Muhtar”, in the Book of Funerals (Kitab al-Jana’iz)
