If Reward Is Gifted to Several Deceased, Does It Reach Them Divided or in Full?

Question

A man gives one rupee in charity, or feeds several poor people, for isal al-thawab (gifting reward) to his father, and at the same time also intends that the reward for it should reach, besides his father, such-and-such other deceased persons. The question is: the full reward and recompense for one rupee that is granted by Allah Most High — in the case asked about, will it reach the father in full, with the others receiving [reward] in addition to that, or will the reward of that same rupee be divided among all…

Answer

The scholars differ on this issue. Some hold that the reward will reach according to shares — just as when someone distributes the paise (a paisa is a small copper coin, a fraction of a rupee) of one rupee among several poor people, each does not receive a whole rupee; rather it is divided and reaches [each] according to his share.
