The funeral prayer at the disliked (makruh) times

Question

Zayd says that at the times when voluntary (nafl) prayer is makruh, the funeral prayer is also makruh; and Bakr says that the funeral prayer is not makruh at those times. Whose view is correct?

Answer

At the times when prayer is forbidden absolutely, the funeral prayer is also forbidden (the restriction to “nafl” is not correct). The forbidden times are three: sunrise, the sun’s zenith (istiwa’) and sunset — [the prohibition applies] when the janaza was ready beforehand; if it arrives during these times, [praying over it] is not forbidden.
