Calling God the Pure Unjust (in Jest, about a Child’s Likeness)

Question

A son was born to Zayd, but the boy did not take after Zayd; rather he took after his maternal uncle. Zayd said in jest, “Look, Allah has been unjust: he does not take after us, he takes after his uncle.” What is the ruling of the Sacred Law for Zayd now — should renewal of iman and renewal of marriage be carried out or not?

Answer

The seat of iman is the heart, and its departure from the heart is kufr. But just as, for the manifestation of iman, the tongue is the interpreter of the heart, so too the utterance of certain words has been declared a sign of kufr.
