Calling God Unjust and Oneself a Kafir
Question
During Zayd’s illness his wife told him to recite the kalima and istighfar; the illness was not so severe, and now and then in health too she told him to recite the kalima and istighfar — he refused in both cases. After Zayd’s male children died, Zayd kept saying, “He [God] has ‘felled my tree’ (i.e. destroyed my offspring) — so may the tree be felled of whoever is above Him.
