Cursing One’s Mother and Defiling Her Grave
Question
(1) A man named Ayyub cursed his mother and sister and said: “I do not acknowledge them; they are like my shoe to me”; and he picked up the noble Qur’an and threw it. Kindly inform us whether there is any penalty for this in the Sacred Law. (2) The same Ayyub urinated on his mother’s grave, cursed her and said: “Get far away from here.” What is the ruling for such a person?
Answer
(1) If the matter is indeed thus, it is a most grievous thing: iman has not survived it. The said person must renew his iman, repent and seek forgiveness publicly, and also renew his marriage. Otherwise let everyone cut off greeting and conversation, courtship and marriage ties with him, and so bring about his reform. (2)
