The Ruling on One Who Calls the Qur’an and Hadith False

Question

We, three men, were planning a collection of donations to build a mosque when a man who had drunk wine came and stood by us. Conversation went on for a while, but in his drunkenness he also said: “The Qur’an and hadith of the Muslims are all false; they insult the Hindu religion.” On account of this, a Hindu–Muslim quarrel here has gone very far. Tell us now, how should we deal with him?

Answer

The matter was trivial and could have been settled with good management, but it grew. Now he should be dealt with very gently and kindly: by some means take him to a pious scholar so that he may be made to understand — very grave words have escaped your tongue; there is still time for repentance, so repent, otherwise the outcome is very severe.
