Calling the Memorization of the Qur’an Disliked

Question

If, under the rule of the English, someone says that memorizing the Qur’an is makruh (disliked), what is the ruling of the Sacred Law concerning him?

Answer

Memorizing the amount that is obligatory in prayer is fard ‘ayn, while memorizing the whole Qur’an is fard kifayah and sunnah ‘ayn. Therefore one who calls it makruh is sunk in ignorance and folly — indeed in misguidance; the matter should be properly explained to him.
