Holding the Forbidden Lawful on Account of Being a Sayyid

Question

There is a certain sayyid among us. One day he said: “I am a sayyid; we drink wine, we commit adultery, and the forbidden is permissible for us, and our grandfather, that is the Prophet ﷺ, will intercede for us; so you have no room to say anything against me.” Has this man become a disbeliever by uttering such words or not? And is the animal slaughtered by his hand lawful or not?

Answer

The prohibition of adultery and of wine belongs to the necessities of the religion, and by denying it iman does not remain intact — so in Ikfar al-Mulhidin. Therefore for this sayyid to speak thus is to destroy his own iman. As a sayyid, on the contrary, greater obedience is incumbent upon him.
