Chain Letter with a Prayer for Well-Being
Question
Question: These days a certain text is circulating by postcard; I am enclosing a copy of it with this petition. Previously Hazrat Saharanpuri had already refuted a similar notice (“Farman-i Mustafawi” (“The Command of [the Prophet] Mustafa ﷺ”)), explaining that it was the work of Jews or non-Muslims — this is recorded in “Tadhkirat al-Khalil”, p. 203. At present this chain of postcards is circulating again; the sixth point of its text is written on some cards and not on others.
Answer
A supplication (du‘a) for well-being is a most blessed and excellent thing; there is encouragement and emphasis on it in the hadiths, so every person should attend to it. However, writing nine copies is not a matter of the Sacred Law, the abandonment of which carries any threat or misfortune.
