The Standing (Wuquf) at Muzdalifa

Question

If, because of the crowds, women and weak men fear hardship and do not stay at Muzdalifa, then a dam will not be wajib. May they then not go to Muzdalifa at all, and pray the maghrib prayer wherever the time of maghrib comes upon them, and pray the ‘isha’ prayer at the time of ‘isha’? Is this permissible without any karaha (dislike)?

Answer

If one performs the standing (wuquf) for even a short while between true dawn (subh sadiq) and sunrise — whether asleep or awake — and even by merely passing through there, the standing takes place and the wajib is fulfilled. By staying at Muzdalifa before true dawn the wajib is not fulfilled, and for omitting a wajib a dam (penalty sacrifice) becomes obligatory.
