The way to show sympathy to an oppressor

Question: What is the ruling on showing sympathy to an oppressive person?

Answer

Sympathy should certainly be shown, and sympathy towards him consists in restraining him from oppression, as has come in the hadith: [ar]انْصُرْ أَخَاكَ ظَالِمًا أَوْ مَظْلُومًا[/ar] “Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or oppressed” (the hadith).
