Condemnation of false propaganda

Question

Question: Propaganda is being waged against a Muslim — against those Muslims who are truly Muslims, i.e. regular in prayer and fasting. Those who wage this propaganda call themselves adherents of the Shari‘a, and they propagate that no one should speak to them or take part in their funerals and the like; and when those people greet them with salam, these persons who regard themselves as adherents of the Shari‘a spit and do not return the salam. What is the ruling concerning such a person?

Answer

Doing this without a reason is haram. Once the reason for which they do this becomes known, a more detailed explanation can be given as to the Shari‘a status of that reason.
