Suicide

Question

If someone, while regarding suicide as haram, nevertheless takes his own life, what kind of sin will he bear, and is there hope of his forgiveness with Allah?

Answer

Suicide is haram. But when someone does it while regarding it as haram, and he also fears punishment, then, in sha Allah, there is hope of forgiveness: [ar]وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ[/ar] “…and He forgives what is less than that to whomever He wills” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:48).
