Severing relations with a disobedient person
Question
A certain Mehr Din has been a fugitive from Islam for fifteen years; it is as though he has driven Islam out of his heart. His son committed a theft last year, which is proven in accordance with the Qurʾan, but this man calls the Noble Qurʾan by impermissible words, which no Muslim can bear. Mehr Din’s wife hurls abuse, which troubles her neighbours. In such a situation, what is the ruling if he is boycotted?
Answer
Reading about the circumstances of the said Mehr Din and others caused me great sorrow. It is incumbent on the whole biradari (a kinship or caste community) and its elders to arrange teaching and tabligh in their area, so that people understand the Holy Qurʾan, the noble hadith and fiqh, set right their faith and practice, and come to know Allah the Pure and His Messenger ﷺ.
