Punishment by boycott imposed by the members of the community council
Question
We are members of the Muslim blacksmiths’ community. We married one of our boys in Mansuri to a girl of the same community. Solely on account of this, the Muslim blacksmiths’ community of Khandon has shut us and our kinsmen out of the community. The barber of the biradari (kinship community) has been instructed not to invite our family to deaths and weddings.
Answer
What was your fault, for which this punishment was given to you? Imposing such a punishment without fault is a grave sin; its burden is severe both in this world and in the Hereafter. It is incumbent upon the members and heads of the community council not to punish without fault, and to make amends for whatever mistake has been made.
