Boycotting those who held an improper gathering

Question

Several gentlemen are counted among the notables and chief men of the area and are regarded as representatives of the community. To every community council, shariʿa-based or not, held here, these gentlemen are invariably invited, and the decision is laid on their shoulders; in short, in every matter they are invited and are at the forefront. At the door of their house there is a mosque in which the five daily prayers and the adhan take place.

A gravely sinful deed has been committed. Public repentance for it is obligatory: they should acknowledge their fault and seek forgiveness (istighfar) with remorse, and be fully careful in future.
