Boycotting one who does not pray
Question
The mosque committee here has announced that the five daily prayers are fard upon every Muslim brother. There are three mosques in our village; let them perform the prayers in any mosque, at whatever time they can manage. If some brother cannot manage the prayers at all five times, let him take part in the prayer at whatever time he can manage; and if he cannot manage a single time, let him certainly take part in the Jumuʿa prayer once in eight days.
Answer
The real aim is the reform of one’s state and adherence to the obligations ordained by God (fara’id). Severing ties and not taking part in joyful occasions is also one of the ways to this: [ar]فَلَا تَقْعُدْ بَعْدَ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ مَعَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ[/ar] “…then do not sit, after the reminder, with the wrongdoing people” (Surah al-Anʿam, 6:68).
