Imitating other peoples

Question

What is the ruling on a woman going about without hijab and wearing a sari; on men and women wearing shoes of the English “lady” style, clothes of the same style as well, and braiding the hair in the same way too?

Answer

All of these things are prohibited and impermissible: [ar]مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ[/ar] “Whoever imitates a people is one of them” (hadith).
