An impersonator and a CID officer adopting the appearance and guise of a non-Muslim
Question
(1) Zayd, because of his trade, for his livelihood, (an impersonator who changes guises) changes his appearance in such a way that one becomes certain that he is a Hindu: for example, sometimes he becomes a Hindu potter, a Hindu mendicant ascetic and the like, puts a Hindu mark on his forehead and wears a Hindu prayer-bead necklace around his neck. These are his actions; but sometimes he himself declares that he is a Hindu and expresses the wish to become a Muslim — that is, he deceives by calling himself a Hindu.
Answer
Without dire necessity, wearing the distinctive dress of the kafirs is prohibited and impermissible, by the words of the Exalted: [ar]وَلَا تَرْكَنُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ فَتَمَسَّكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ[/ar] “And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire touch you” (Surah Hud, 11:113). And applying a Hindu forehead mark is a religious symbol (shi‘ar)
