Hindu adornments
Question
In the eastern districts, according to custom, Muslim women too fill the parting of their hair with sindoor (red powder), put a decorative dot on the forehead, wear toe rings and use the sari. According to the Shari‘a, is this kind of adornment permissible or not?
Answer
These things originally belong to non-Muslims: some are purely national, and some also carry a trace of religiousness. It is prohibited for the people of Islam to adopt such things; using the second kind is more serious than the first, and its prohibition is also more severe.
